Paradise Falls is a tourists
paradise, but not if your vacation plans include cruising
the lake on a jet-ski.
According to a new by-law, passed at
the last meeting of the town council, jet-skis are now banned
in the county. The reasons cited for the ban were related
to noise and safety.
Those things are really loud. And
fast. A kid swimming might hear it coming but still not
be able to get out of the way in time, said Mayor
Pete Braga. We want visitors to enjoy themselves,
but we have to look out for the safety and comfort of everyone.
The motion to ban jet-skis was made by
the Mayor immediately following the rejection of By-Law
323.
By-Law 323, which would have allowed
for an Adult Entertainment lounge to be opened in town,
was narrowly defeated by the Nay vote of councilor Jim Oakes.
Oakes is owner of Oakes Recreational Boating Sales, the
largest retailer of jet-skis in the region.
With the elimination of jet-skis on the
lake, the roar of small motors will now only come from chainsaws,
lawnmowers, weed-whackers, motorcycles, power-saws, drill
presses, model airplanes, outboard motorboats, and Angus
Williams homemade internal combustion wheelchair.
