However bad things are in the outside
world, Paradise Falls seems to be recession-proof. Local
retailers are reporting a sales boom on luxury items this
season.
Among the goods and services enjoying
record sales are various kinds of electronics, especially
video cameras. Leather and rubber clothing, tattoos and
body piercings are also up several hundred per cent.
Alcohol, as usual, remains the best selling
item in town.
Speculation on the reason for the sharp
spike in sales is rampant. Some attribute it to tourism,
but many are saying that local residents are spending more.
Maybe its tourists,
maybe its not, but someones buying this stuff
like theres no tomorrow, said Mark Hand, cashier
at the Canadian Tire. Id sure like to know whos
wearing the rubber outfits. PFC
