The Boathouse is Sinking

Paradise Falls’ favourite watering hole by the water is going under. The Cooperative Bank of Central Northern Ontario has called in the Boathouse Bar and Grill’s line of credit, and unless the $80,000 tab is paid by Friday the Boathouse is sunk.

Longtime owner of the Boathouse, Bea Sutton is distraught. “How do they expect me to come up with eighty grand in a few days? If I had that kind of money, why would I need the line of credit?”

Business has been good at the Boathouse this year. The regular influx of tourists for the season combined with the arrival of a very thirsty film crew doing pre-production for the “The Witches of Fenwick” has made for brisk sales.

Eugene Merman, manager of the Paradise Falls Branch of the CBCNO, could not be reached for comment on why his bank called in the line of credit.

Mayor Pete Braga, former boyfriend of Sutton, said that he’s sure the bank had a good reason, whatever it was. “Banks don’t just do things, you know, without a damn good reason. You can be sure that [Bea Sutton] deserves what she’s getting.”

Braga was quick to point out that even if Sutton is forced to leave, the Boathouse will not be lost. “There will still be a Boathouse Bar and Grill for the residents and visitors of Paradise Falls to enjoy,” said Braga. “It will be there if I have to buy it and run it myself.” PFC
